Core Web Template

Bob Kawa |Core Web Template

For the past 8 years I've worked with local website company New Media Retailer. A company that creates web templates and manages websites for mom and pop stores that fit into specific industries.

Naturally we offered several templates for users to choose from, but we just didn't have the personnel to upkeep the multitude of templates we offered.

Enter the Core template

Core was my brain child, to create a singular web template that could be heavily customized to fit individual customers needs. From colors to branding to customized pre designed content blocks.

I also took several steps to make some of the largest built in customizations accessible simply by changing the value of variables.

For Instance if a user didn't like the basic layout of the site's navigation, simply changing the value of the base_nav variable would achieve the results.

Thankfully, moving New Media Retailer towards a single highly customizable template was a great move. Template upkeep can now be done in one place as opposed to several. This has been my most ambitious project while working for New Media Retailer, and I'd like to think it's also been my most impactful. Leaving my mark on a tremendous local company.

Core Documentation

One of my biggest focuses with Core was to build in as many customizations as possible, and make the vast majority of them easy to accomplish, even if you weren't technically inclined or savy with the Twig templating language

I put together several PDF documents that detailed all the different customization options available, as well as how to pull them off. Including code examples for our web design team
